How to play

A five-letter word is hidden. Type any five-letter word and press “Enter”. The tiles change colour: green means the letter is in the word and in the right spot, yellow means it is in the word but elsewhere, grey means the letter is not in the word. You have six tries to find it.

Points: The fewer tries, the better. The word of the day is the same for everyone and counts towards your stats: days played, wins, days in a row and your best streak. Free play has no limits and no stats — it is there for practice.

Worth knowing: If a letter repeats, each occurrence is coloured on its own. Accents don’t matter: é is e. You can share the daily result as a grid of coloured squares — without the word itself, so you don’t spoil it for friends.

Not allowed: Tell the word of the day to people who haven’t played yet.
